ANNIE ROSE CHAMPION GIPSON

1907-1949

BIOGRAPHY

Born Annie Rose Champion on January 23, 1907, I was the fifth child of Dock and Henrietta Champion. We lived on a family farm with my eleven brothers and sisters. I can still remember tending the farm with papa and helping mama fix supper.

The good Lord has given me a blessed life. As I sit on my mother’s old rocking chair, gazing upon the beautiful sunset, I feel at peace. Daydreaming about the wonderful memories I have had here, in Smithville, Georgia.

When I became of age, I fell in love and married a wonderful man, Fred Gipson on April 20, 1924. We moved to Gifford, Florida to begin a new life, where I worked as a seamstress. I also gave birth to eight beautiful children.

And now as the sunset fades away on this lovely Wednesday evening April 27, 1949, I am joyful to have lived such a wonderful life.

A Reflection

My name is Abidel Champion Battle and I am the sixth child born to Annie Rose Champion Gipson.  Although I was only 6 years old when my mother died, I fondly remember her as being beautiful, sweet and kind.  She was smart, neat and loving.  She prepared a home for us and was a great help on the farm.  I have missed her every day of my life and loved her very much.  She is in my heart forever!
