Biography
Born in 1910, I am Daisy Lee Jones and was the 6th daughter and child born to my parents, Dock and Henrietta. I loved my family from the very start and since I was the youngest of 6 girls when I was born, I learned to have so much fun. I loved the attention that my big sisters gave me. As I got older, I was able to visit my sisters, who married and set out to start their own lives. The tradition of visiting my siblings became a constant in my life. Over time I developed a great since of humor and was slow to anger. I had no children of my own but I enjoyed spending time with my many nieces and nephews and loved watching them grow. I loved socializing and attending our family church. I always tried to see the positive side of things.
A Reflection
Aunt Daisy was the sixth child born to Dock and Henrietta Champion. She was a joy to be around and frequently visited her family. She was comical, fun-loving and very affectionate. She was also fearless; and… as the story goes, she killed a fox with her bare hands because he was trying to eat her chickens. Whew!
I especially cherished our times together harvesting crops, going shopping, to the movies, church or to grab a bite to eat. Somehow, by the end of the event, she would have us all laughing. She didn’t have biological children but always treated her many nieces and nephews as her own.
Aunt Daisy lived on Papa’s “other place” until her health began to decline and I would always take a look across the horizon to see if she was walking our way, and if she was, I would joyously run out to meet her. She would enjoy being greeted with a hot cup of coffee and cake, or “sweet bread”, as she would say. I can still hear her affectionately calling me — “Caraman” Rose, which is the name she gave me!
