HENRIETTA SCOTT CHAMPION

BIOGRAPHY

I am Henrietta Scott Champion, grand matriarch of this great (tribe) family. I was born on August 10, 1879 in Sumter County, Georgia to William and Amelia Scott. I married George “Dock” Champion on December 19, 1897. Over the following twenty- three years we had 12 children, your grandparents, great grandparents and great-great grandparents. Papa “Dock” and I purchased a 100-acre farm which included a lovely home, which stands to this day. We raised various animals and grew numerous crops. This was unusual for people of color in the State of Georgia. You see, we were first generation freed people. Our parents were born into slavery. We taught our children God’s Word and told them of God’s love for His people. Our family really wanted for nothing. We saw all our children grow up and begin their own families, except our baby girl Mattie Pearl who died at the tender age of two. I witnessed the births of a few of my grandchildren. I went home to be with the Lord at the age of 62 on December 29, 1941. My Champion offspring, I am proud of you. God has abundantly blessed our family.
