Biography
My name is Mattie Pearl Champion. I was born on September 5, 1922. I was the youngest child of Dock and Henrietta Champion. As just a toddler on a chilly morning, I accidentally fell forward into the fire place at about 10:30 am on December 2, 1924. I passed away later that evening at 9:25 pm. I lived for 2 years, 2 months and 27 days. Even though my life was short, my family has never forgotten about me.
A Reflection
My name is Pearlie Champion Smith, the youngest grandchild of Dock and Henrietta Champion, and the youngest child of Lewis and Ethel Champion. My dad always told me that I was named after is baby sister, who died in a tragic accident, so I bare the name proudly.
Playing and being a child was all you knew, not knowing that the Lord would call you home at the tender age of two. Auntie we never got to meet you or hear any of your fantabulous tales or adventures , or how it was growing up as the baby in the family, probably having grandma and granddaddy wrapped around your pinky. But God’s plan was to call you home.
As believers in Christ, it gives us great comfort in knowing that you are absent from your precious little body but your soul is present with the Lord. Sleep on our angel
