OLA MAE CHAMPION BOHANON

1899-1975

Biography

I am Ola Mae Champion, the first born child to the union of Dock and Henrietta Champion.  I was born in Sumter County, Georgia and was blessed to be the big sister to eleven siblings. My parents were great providers who taught us faith and God’s goodness from the very start. I’m sure this played a significant role as I witnessed and shared the gospel through ministry. Although I had no biological children, I was blessed with a son named Thomas, who was the youngest child of my sister Annie Rose.  It was a delight to see him grow into manhood.

A REFLECTION

Hello ! My name is Bridget Champion Stevenson. I’m the daughter of James Edward Champion Sr. & the late Gloria Dean Dismuke Champion. I’m the Descendant of the late Elder & Jimmie Lee Daniel Champion. I want to talk you a little bit about my Great Aunt Ola Mae Champion which was more like another mother to me and my siblings , Jeff, Bug, Faye, Bridget, Kent and Greg.

Ola Mae Champion was the first born of Dock and Henrietta Champion . She born in 1899 and she died in 1975 . Aunt Ola lived across the street from us; we would visit her everyday. We would do things she needed us to do.

Every morning before we went to school she would give all of us a snack. She took us fishing, to church, shopping and each summer she would always take two of us to Waycross on the train to visit her sister.  Her name was Aunt Rubie, which we called her.  I used to love to go visit her.

We would go to Aunt Ola’s house and she would cook for us. Like I say, she was just like another mother to us . She helped raised us. I will never forget the time she took all of us to the bank and she opened up a savings account with all of our names on it. We were so excited. I could go on and on about how great my Aunt Ola was. She was one of a kind. We truly miss her and we loved her dearly. Until we meet again, rest on Aunt Ola . We Love you !!! God Bless !
